WHAT

Women Who Quant is an international online competition and learning opportunity designed with the goal of increasing the participation of, and opportunities for, women in the quantitative finance industry.  Participants in Women Who Quant can learn about quantitative finance through live and recorded skill-building sessions, which are optional and online for convenience.  Participants will also be able to test their skills through building alphas—mathematical models that seek to predict price movements in securities and other financial instruments.

Women Who Quant is hosted and organized by WorldQuant, a quantitative asset management firm.  WorldQuant has over 750 full-time employees in 27 offices and 17 countries, in addition to over 1,500 research consultants.  These research consultants are part of WorldQuant’s Virtual Research Center and are independent contractors who work remotely developing alphas using a web-based market simulation platform called WebSim.

The top three (3) scorers in Women Who Quant will be eligible to earn a cash prize (or cash equivalent)  based on their overall rank as follows:

  • 1st place – US$ 5,000
  • 2nd place - US$ 3,000
  • 3rd place – US$ 1,000

Please refer to the guidelines for full details.

WorldQuant is always on the lookout for talent and participants who perform well in the Women Who Quant competition may be considered to join WorldQuant’s global team of research consultants or to apply for full-time employment or internships.

Women Who Quant is an online competition, so you can participate from the comfort of your home or wherever else you have an internet connection.  No travel is required.

WHY

Women Who Quant was designed with the goal of increasing the participation of, and opportunities for, women in the field of quantitative finance.  As in other industries, gender representation often is not reflective of the available talent pool and we are aiming to accelerate the pace of progress in reducing this gender gap.  This event will provide an introduction to quantitative finance—including fundamental and advanced principles—and may open doors to opportunities in the industry for those who perform well.

In 2018, WorldQuant  conducted a worldwide, team-based competition called the International Quant Championship (IQC).  More than 11,000 participants from 80-plus countries competed online building alphas.  After local and national semifinals, the top performing eligible teams from 15 countries were flown to Singapore for the global finals.  Of the eleven (11) recognized finals winners, seven (7) were women, and first place was awarded to an all-female team.  We were excited to see this diversity and we hope that Women Who Quant will further promote education and opportunities in quantitative finance for women.
